Join John McGuirk (MPM’93), creative strategies consultant and former director of performing arts at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, for an informal lunch and learn session. Mr. McGuirk will discuss his career path in philanthropy and arts/culture, key findings from a recent Hewlett arts leadership research study, Moving Arts Leadership Forward: A Changing Landscape, and other insights facing the future of the creative industries.

About the speaker:

John McGuirk served as the director of the Performing Arts Program at The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation for eight years. Prior to that, he worked as director of the James Irvine Foundation’s Arts Program, managed the grants programs for Arts Council Silicon Valley, and worked at the Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain View, California, the Pittsburgh Symphony, and the Pittsburgh Opera. McGuirk has also served on the board of Grantmakers in the Arts and participates in steering committees of the California Cultural Data Project and the Northern California Grantmakers’ Arts Loan Fund. McGuirk is an alumnus of Heinz College ( MPM '93), where he concentrated his studies on arts management.
