"The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui" is about a mobster on a quest to corner Chicago’s cauliflower market. A cautious yet critical Brecht wrote this gangster thriller in 1941 in response to the rise of Hitler and the Nazi Party. Staged as a “gangster spectacle”, Arturo Ui will combine digital puppetry, comedy, cabaret and toy theater to explore the rise of nationalism, and the influence of charismatic, strong men in today’s global politics.
