At What Cost? Race, Punishment, and Possibilities in Greater Pittsburgh Schools

In this talk, Dr. James Huguley will share findings from a decade of the Just Discipline Project's work advancing relational and restorative practices in Greater Pittsburgh schools. Drawing on partnerships across multiple school districts, he will present on the societal consequences of harsh and racially biased discipline, as well as findings on sustainably reducing these harmful approaches in ways that equitably improve school climate and enhance student learning in K-12 schools. Both practical approaches and policy implications for sustaining systems-level transformation will be discussed.
