Want to learn about data visualizations for the web? Want to build in ways for viewers to interact with your data? Come learn how to make web apps and dashboards with R Shiny from David Henderson of the Family Independence Initiative. Check out examples of Shiny apps here: http://shiny.rstudio.com/gallery/

This workshop will introduce you to Shiny Server, an open source project that brings the full power of R to the web browser. At the Family Independence Initiative they use R and Shiny to rapidly develop and deploy data dashboards for internal consumption and for external partners. This workshop will give you the tools to quickly develop and deploy your own data dashboards online, empowering your whole organization to learn from your metrics.

Attendees of this workshop will walk away understanding the basics of how to develop applications in Shiny Server, how to stand up a Shiny Server of their own or on RStudio's hosted solution, and how to deploy applications.

Bring a laptop to follow along with the tutorial, and we'll bring the pizza.

Chief Data Officer

Family Independence Initiative

David Henderson joined Family Independence Initiative (www.fii.org) in 2014 after running a data analytics and technology company for over eight years that built outcomes management solutions for social sector organizations. David├óÔé¼Ôäós professional focus is on improving the way social sector organizations utilize information to make high impact decisions. After more than a decade working in and with human service organizations, David is especially interested in exploring the effectiveness of investing directly in low-income communities. David holds a Masters of Science in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University and a BA in politics from Pomona College.

Since 2001, Family Independence Initiative (FII) has innovated and tested new approaches to economic and social mobility that demonstrate that low-income families have the initiative and capacity to move themselves and their communities out of poverty. This happens when families have access to connections, choice, and capital.
