Come and learn more about the CMU Social Innovation Fellowship, a new fellowship opportunity for students interested in social innovation in government, industry, and academia. Lunch will be provided!

The CMU Social Innovation Fellowship provides an opportunity for a group of graduate students to design, build and scale ideas that can have lasting and meaningful impact. The fellowship will provide a select cohort of exceptional students interested in social innovation an opportunity to learn from government, university, and industry. It further provides a platform to take students’ existing or new ideas and help move those ideas from ideation to implementation by providing a “living laboratory” in which to test these ideas.

The fellowship begins with a fully covered two-day trek to Boston, MA on January 12-13, 2017 to meet with representatives from each of these areas and to learn about the approaches and best practices from some of the world’s leaders in innovation. The trek is then followed by mentorship, coaching and workshop-based learning so students can build on these best practices and take the lessons learned back to Southwestern Pennsylvania. Fellows then will immerse themselves into the community to learn about the challenges that the area faces and develop solutions with local partners. The outcome of the fellowship must be a new entrepreneurial venture or recommendations for further research to address a problem being faced by rural or urban populations. Follow up may take the form of internships with a local private, non-profit or public agency as well as a proposal for a systems project and/or a submission to national competitions.
